Lockheed Martin SWOT Analysis

Lockheed Martin is US based company competing in Aerospace, defense and advance information security systems. The company was founded in 1995 by the merger of Lockheed Corporation and Martin Marietta. Its headquarter is located in Bethesda, Maryland, USA.

Strengths

It is one of the largest defense contractor in the world.

It is operating in four different segments which include Aeronautics,electronic systems,Information security and global solutions.

It has a very strong cliental around the world however, major portion of their revenues comes from military sales.

The company occupied top spot in the list of US federal contractors.

Strong research and development.

It has very competent human resources.

It has strong product portfolio which include products  ATC systems,Ballistic missiles,Munitions,Missile defense elements,Transport aircraft,Fighter aircraft,Radar,Satellites,Atlas launch vehicles and Spacecraft.

Long term contracts with government agencies.

Weaknesses

It is number one in contract misconduct according to the project on government oversight database.

High dependency on government contract in terms of revenues.

Low price approach.

Opportunities

Acquisition and joint ventures.

Increase the international market share to reduce dependency on domestic market.

Develop more innovative products.

Demand of defense products is increasing every year due to unstable conditions in Iraq and Afghanistan. Moreover, the rivals countries such as Pakistan and India invest majority of budget on defense equipment.

New international contracts.

Threats

Intense competition globally.

Economic slowdown.

Reduction in defense budget.

Boeing strike perhaps impact on company reputation.
